Pregnant Woman Steals N3.2m From Bureau de Change

A 29-year-old pregnant woman, Oluwakemi Efunkeye, has appeared before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrate's Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing more than N3.2m from the account of a Bureau de Change located on Ojuelegba Road, Surulere area of Lagos.




The prosecutor, ASP Innocent Effiong, said Efunkeye, the mastermind of the plot, on the first occasion withdrew the sum of N15,088.80 from the account and on another occasion N200,203.
Effiong said the efunkeye used Okewole (29) on May 13 to withdraw N254,000 and four days later withdrew N800,000. Also, the accused allegedly withdrew N300,000 the following day.
The prosecutor said Efunkeye, Okewole and the others at large, on May 20, stole N427,000 from the account, while they stole N762,000 and N412,440 on May 25 and June 1 respectively.
Efunkeye was said to have contracted different people to help her withdraw the money on the different occasions. But the bank suspected the transactions and laid an ambush for Okewole and was arrested and granted bail in the sum of N500,000 and two sureties in like sum.
The two accused are currently being held at the Kirikiri Prisons, Lagos, pending the fulfillment of their bail conditions.
The case has been adjourned till September 7 for further hearing.
